John F Kennedy International Airport is one of the world’s largest and busiest airport. The airport is located in Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City. The airport is conveniently located, being just about 12 miles from the central business district of Lower Manhattan. JFK International is one of three major airports that serve New York City and the surrounding communities.
Construction on the airport first began in 1943. The airport was initially developed to relieve some of the traffic from LaGuardia Airport, which was running on maximum capacity. For the first few years of use, the airport was largely used for military transport purposes. The first commercial flight came out of the airport in 1948.
