General Mitchell Intl Airport Transportation

Located five miles south of Milwaukee’s central business district, General Mitchell International Airport is easily accessible by ground transportation. Passengers can drive to the airport and park in the short-term garage or the long-term surface lot. To reach the airport, follow Interstate 94/Route 41 North-South Highway to State Route 119. After taking Exit 318, follow the state route east toward the airport. The commercial airfield is located on Airport Spur. It is also possible to access the airport by traveling south out of Milwaukee on Interstate 794.

Passengers can reach the airport by taking taxicabs, limousines and commercial shuttle vans. Each service can provide transportation to or from your home, hotel or place of business. The shuttles are typical passenger vans, and the limos are available in town cars or stretch models to accommodate large groups.

Another convenient option is Amtrak’s Milwaukee Airport Rail Station, which began operation in 2005. The station is on the Hiawatha Service line that connects Milwaukee to Chicago and other destinations. Located less than a mile from the terminal, the station has 14 arrivals each day. Seven of the trains originate in Chicago, and the others travel from Milwaukee. It takes a little over an hour for the train to travel from Chicago. The transit time from Milwaukee is approximately 10 minutes. A complimentary shuttle bus transports passengers between the airport’s baggage claim area and the railway station.

Passengers can use the Green Line Metroexpress Bus service offered by the Milwaukee County Transit System. The express bus connects Bayshore to the airport with service about every 15 to 20 minutes. The buses operate seven days a week from 4:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. The airport is also part of the system’s regular Route 80 circuit. Several private bus operators provide service between General Mitchell Airport and downtown Milwaukee, Madison, Racine and Kenosha as well as downtown Chicago, O’Hare and Midway Airports.
